Dawn of Sound Biography
Dawn McCann, otherwise known as DJ Dawn of Sound , first started playing records in 1997. While riding public transportation, this SF Bay native spied a billboard for an exhibit at a local museum about the origin of sound, of music, an exhibit about the Dawn of Sound. In a flash of brilliant inspiration, DJ Dawn of Sound was born.
Her interest in the electronic music scene began to flourish when she lived in Germany the summer of 1996, before her senior year of high school. Shortly after her return, she started promoting for San Francisco's legendary Funky Tekno Tribe. Surrounded and influenced by internationally recognized talent she began to spin records and start her dj career. Her dj debut was at MAZE, held at Club Six in San Francisco in 1999.
Her talent landed her affiliations with Funky Tekno Tribe, Organic, Spundae, Sunday Mass and ESDJCO. Throughout the years she has maintained major residencies with the parties held by the above listed as well as with SF's Legendary Club The End Up.
Dawn of Sound has played in front of thousands in every major venue with a prime time slot in the SF Bay Area for the last decade. Such clubs include Ruby Sky, Temple, 1015 Folsom, Mezzanine, Mighty, Club 6, and of course The End Up. Not to mention her self proclaimed highlight gig closing for Jane's Addiction at The Shoreline Amphitheater.
Outside of the bay area Dawn has toured through Miami, Dallas, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles, Hawaii and Canada. Including a major tour through the Philippines in 2004.
Dawn of Sound has shared the stage with the likes of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude and her mentor DJ Sneak to name a few.
Moving in a creative vein, Dawn started producing music in 2005. Over the years she has collaborated with many ,but more recently in 2008 she joined forces with Moody Eva releasing tracks under the name Tramp Towers. Dawn-a-Tello, another duo venture formed with the talented DJ/producer Mikey Tello, who's releases are highly anticipated in late 2009. Not to mention the most recent work she has been doing with G Koop the well recognized hip hop producer and grammy award winning Bobby Ozuna, know for producing tracks for Erika Badu, 2pac, and Lionel Richie.
Dawn has an energetic vibe both on and off the decks. Her sense of humor will always keep you smiling and her beats will keep you grinding.
